Stories of Hope

How one woman’s healing became a doorway to hope for an entire community

Tucked among fields and footpaths is a small village that is home to several tribal communities whose lives are shaped by the rhythms of the land. During the rainy season, families farm what they can. When harvest comes, they travel 15 to 20 kilometers to nearby towns to sell their goods. The daily work is strenuous, and opportunities are limited for many, especially women.

Spiritual life in the village is equally complex. Many families worship ancestral gods and goddesses. Others place their trust in witchcraft or village magicians, hoping for protection, healing, or direction. For young people, especially young women, the future can feel especially uncertain. While some young men leave to work labor jobs in nearby cities, concerns about safety, particularly night shifts, often keep young women close to home, with limited paths forward.

It was in this setting that Asha’s story began.

In 2006, Asha was suffering from a serious illness. When prayer was offered in Jesus’ name, she experienced healing. An encounter that changed her life. What began as gratitude grew into faith, and Asha chose to follow Christ. Her recovery was visible, not just physically, but in the peace and purpose that began to shape her life.

Her husband watched closely.

As he saw the change in Asha, he too began asking questions about this new faith. In time, he placed his trust in Jesus as well. Together, they began attending Sunday worship, and slowly, a small community of believers formed around them. What started simply as shared prayer, Scripture, fellowship, grew into a local church.

For years, the church focused on spiritual growth: gathering, worshiping, learning God’s Word, and walking together in faith. But as the congregation matured, the leaders began to see what the young people around them were facing. Many lacked access to education or practical skills. Without alternatives, young women in particular were at risk of being left behind.

Her recovery was visible, not just physically, but in the peace and purpose that began to shape her life.

In 2016, Asha, her husband, and the church leaders sensed a new calling. Faith could not remain separate from daily life. If the church was to truly serve its community, it needed to offer more than Sunday services; it needed to help shape futures.

They began offering vocational training for young women, starting with 50 participants. Word spread quickly. Today, 100 young women participate each year in a one-year certificate program that equips them with practical skills—sewing, cutting, stitching, hand embroidery, along with handicrafts such as knitting, glass painting, and pottery. These skills open doors to employment in reputable companies and textile shops or to earning an income from home, providing dignity, stability, and hope.

For a long time, space was the greatest challenge. Classes were held wherever room could be found, limiting what was possible. After seasons of prayer and fasting, that barrier was finally removed.

Through partnership with ICM, a dedicated Church Training Center was built. The building now stands as a visible sign of God’s faithfulness and a practical tool for longterm transformation. From Monday through Friday, the center serves as a place of vocational training for women. On Wednesday nights and Sundays, it becomes a space for worship. It also hosts seminarylevel training for men, along with daily Bible study and devotional times for those attending vocational programs.

Here, faith and daily life are no longer separated.

Through hands learning new skills and hearts grounded in God’s Word, men and women are being equipped to follow Christ with endurance and purpose. Churches like this, supported through the generosity of ICM investors, become shining beacons of Christ’s love in their communities because they are doing more than gathering for worship on Sundays. They are meeting real needs, preparing people for the future, and making the Gospel visible through faithful presence and everyday transformation. What began with one woman’s healing has grown into a church prepared to serve its community. Training hearts for Christ centered living and shaping a future rooted in hope.
