The Impact of God’s Church in India

This story of a young man named Vijay  demonstrates the impact God’s people can make as they serve and reflect God’s love in a community. 

Vijay, at 12 years old, was the oldest male in his family. His father, recently deceased, had left his family in serious financial straits. Vijay was faced with a difficult decision—begin working to financially support his family or complete his education.  His family strongly urged him to quit school and accept a menial job.  At the time, he had been attending a school sponsored by one of ICM’s India partners.  This school provided academic and spiritual nurturing to the young adults attending.

Vijay turned to one of his teachers there for guidance.  His teacher discussed his situation, and after prayer and discussion, Vijay became convinced of the long-term value of an education.  Vijay gained a newfound motivation to excel in the classroom. Vijay is now working towards his undergraduate degree in Business Administration after finishing first in his class in high school.

Vijay’s experience is one of many remarkable stories we receive from the field.  ICM indigenous partners provide spiritual nurturing within their communities and oftentimes serve their communities by supporting the disabled and sick, providing education to the needy, and feeding the poor.  In these communities, the Body of Christ comes together and does wonderful things by His grace and in His Name.
