ICM’s partner AICA in Liberia reported the following story of forgiveness.
In Careysburg, where the New Life Bible Church is, a crusade was held in the town for three days. There were about three hundred and fifty persons in attendance. For three days Rev. Johnson, who is the head of AICA’s rural evangelism team, kept preaching and teaching the Word with other church workers. The messages and fellowship took great effect on the participants because of their great testimonies we were able to listen to.
A woman in her early sixties named Ma Yarta, publicly confessed that she had been bitter against her own brother for ten years. She said she had planned not to speak to him for ever in her life and had instructed her children that he should have nothing to do with her funeral when she’s dead. She indicated that her vow had been documented. But she said, “Because today I have decided to accept Christ as my personal Savior, I forgive him.” It was a moving moment when she instructed that the documented vow be brought to the pastor to be burnt as a proof of her forgiveness. This testimony has inspired faithfulness and commitment in the church. Members are daily speaking of the need to be serious with God and to forgive others, relating to Ma Yarta’s example.
