Trip to Nepal

A Christian woman of 22 years of age was the tenth woman to climb Mount Everest and senior ICM field officer, Burt Reed, was there to join in the celebration.

This summer, Uswa of Nepal, had the opportunity to honor God in a unique “over the top” manner.  She climbed Mount Everest.  At the tender of age of 22, Uswa, a Christian who gave her life to Christ when she was seven, was the tenth woman to climb Mount Everest.  Reed was there to celebrate with Uswa and her congregation as she received international recognition, while giving God all the glory.

Uswa’s story began in 2003 when she realized she wanted to do something special for God as a witness to His awesome holiness.  She fasted and prayed for forty days and felt the Lord leading her to climb Mount Everest.

Her first effort in 2007 resulted in near death.  Realizing God spared her life for a purpose, she felt the desire to try again.  As she read Habakkuk 3:19, “The Lord God is my strength, and He will make my feet like hind’s feet, and He will make me to walk upon my high places,” she felt the Lord speaking to her through this Scripture to try again.

She did, and this time she made it to the top!  Uswa placed a cross and Bible on the top of Mount Everest and with that, gave God all of the glory for her accomplishment.

Later, Reed spoke with Uswa and asked what she planned to do next.  She said she was meeting with Nepal’s prime minister later that day.  “Are you going to tell him the Truth?” Reed asked. Her answer was an emphatic yes as she left the church and entered the city streets where her faith was the minority.  In Nepal, more than 80% of the residents are Hindhu with the remaining population primarily Buddhist or Muslim.

But Uswa had something none of these other people had--the faith and burning desire to share His love and Truth throughout Nepal--from the mountaintop.
